The Peace and Justice Committee act in support of our belief that all Christians have a moral obligation not just to provide charity, but to address the root causes of the need for that charity. They provide education on catholic Social teaching and positions, minister to the poor through support to four parish and diocesan outreach ministries and advocate our Catholic Social position through appropriate means.

Deacon Doug

OCCCO to Honor Deacon Doug Cook as "Community Beacon"

May 31, 2012 - Anaheim Downtown Community Center

Deacon Doug Cook will be one of three community members honored as a "Community Beacon" at the annual fundraising banquet for the Orange County Congregation Community Organization (OCCCO). The event will be held on Thursday, May 31, at the Anaheim Downtown Community Center (250 E. Center St.). As you know, Deacon Doug's faithful work in the community - his leadership at San Antonio, with the Family Assistance Ministry, the Peace and Justice ministry, and Cursillo - has impacted many lives.

Deacon Doug has also served faithfully as a clergy leader with our work at OCCCO. A few years back, Deacon Doug saw the impact that the San Antonio Peace and Justice Committee was able to have in it's work with OCCCO and got involved.

Since then, the committee has committed itself to working alongside the OCCCO-led interfaith Anaheim Poverty Task Force, and Deacon Doug has been at the center of the action. The Poverty Task Force developed a plan that would create long-term solutions for the homeless in our city and region, and Deacon Doug's leadership has been evident in this campaign. He has spoken at city council meetings on numerous occasions, gone on field trips with the Mayor and Council to visit the PATH multi-service center in LA, met with city staff and council, encouraged over 600 people from our parish to sign cards supporting the initiative, and spoken boldly from the pulpit regarding issues of community change and faithful action. San Antonio is a member congregation of OCCCO, along with 21 other congregations throughout Orange County.

We hope you will join with us in honoring Deacon Doug and his work. Tickets are $75 per person. To purchase tickets, visit: www.occcopico.org/cba.html. Indicate that you are a member of the San Antonio parish and every attempt will be made to seat you with other members of our parish. Click here to order tickets for this event
